Coming to an End

In the words of Tyler Joseph, “Now the night is coming to an end The sun will rise and we will try again.” That kinda summarizes my experience at the Academy. The Academy provided me with fun times, bad times, stressful times, and all around openness. So, I would say that the Academy, for me, was a melodramatic, yet positive experience. I will miss every single person here, and wish them the best for their lives after this camp.

Too Much Drama

I must admit, as much fun I am having here, there is also a ton of unnecessary drama surfacing. The problem I have with that is how close to home it hits for me. I deal with too much drama anyway, but this is a nightmare. Like today, one of my best friends that I’ve made here went home because he felt like he couldn’t be himself here because the staff is too powerful. He felt that he wasn’t listened to by anyone, in a sense that he wasn’t being listened to. I just think that he’s right in saying that because it is true. Some staff, although caring for our safety, are way too overpowering. I just want this Academy to improve before I return again.

Last Week

Why does time seem to fly by? I don’t want this to end, to be honest. I feel more accepted here than I do at my own high school. I will miss all the friends I have made here dearly, mostly because there is a small chance I will ever see them again. I think what I will miss the most is the experience. Although I can apply for the Summer Academy again, I might never see the same people ever again at something like this. I will miss all the RA’s, RIA’s, IA’s, and just the faculty in general. They have been supportive and caring to all students that attended the Academy this year, especially McKenzie and Polly.

Legends Game

I loved the Legends game Monday night! I am not a huge sports fan, but I had a lot of fun. My favorite part was when Hunter gave a little boy a foul ball that he ran for. I also loved when a random player just flat out gave me a baseball for no reason, which I immediately got signed and gave to Trin, because she really wanted one.

Summer Olympics

I thought the Olympics were a great deal of fun, even though I almost passed out from exhaustion and lung problems. I only participated in 3 events, with my favorite being Ultimate Frisbee. I think that the Beach Volleyball event was the worst because it was nearly impossible to complete the first try.

I though the FUSION service projects were a GREAT way to spend my Saturday morning! I love helping people with anything, and I love to hang out with my friends. I went to the STEAM Academy and painted lockers to look like books in a library, which I had fun painting my first locker to look like Gaston Leroux’s, “Le Fantôme de l’Opéra,” or, “The Phantom of the Opera.” I also enjoyed getting to hang out with people I don’t know very well, like Jason Wu.

“In Full Swing”

Now that the Academy is in full swing, I know what I am in for: lots of hard work and more fun!!!! Though, I do find myself getting easily stressed out over simple things, like building the LEGO Mindstorm Robots in Robotics and Engineering today. However, I am (somewhat) capable of handing and containing my stress, unless it gets too overwhelming. I volunteered to be here, so I know what I have to do. I do LOVE the friends I am making here, and the relationships with them that I intend to keep even after the academy ends.
